Comparative Evaluation of Direct Disposal and Pyro-SFR Nuclear Fuel Cycle Alternatives Using Multi Criteria Decision Making in Korea

The Korean government is currently evaluating two alternatives, direct disposal and pyroprocessing, for the of spent nuclear fuel. This paper presents ranking results comparing pyro-SFR fuel cycle alternatives using multi-criteria decision-making methods such as AHP, TOPSIS, PROMETHEE. In considering various evaluation criteria involved in these we aimed to determine optimal choice terms economic social conditions Korea. considered were safety, resource availability, environmental impact, economics, proliferation resistance, public acceptance. show that alternative more advantageous than AHP TOPSIS methods, whereas PROMETHEE method because reversed. assigns ideal value most negative among input values each criterion a parameter reflecting concept distance between best worst alternative. contrast, first selects preference function including threshold, calculates preferred outflow inflow detailed indicators. Therefore, differences exist methodologies decision making. Nonetheless, analysis back-end option can greatly contribute establishing policy cycle, efforts will enable sustainable power generation.
